Oh my gosh, it’s cold here in Minnesota! I don’t know what happened but we went from a pretty unseasonably warm September to a freezing (literally) October and November. We basically skipped vest season and jumped right into full down jacket weather. And, of course, I follow all the fashion bloggers who live down south and are still sporting the cute mules and warm pullovers to run errands. I’m up here pulling on my Pajar Canada snow boots and 3 layers just to make a Target run. So, for all my fellow northerners, and eventually my southern friends, I’m pulling together my favorite women’s winter clothes essentials for this season.
Top Picks for Women’s Winter Clothes Essentials 2018
I have a full selection of winter gear but the core is based on functionality and warmth. Pictured below are my most worn outdoor winter clothing items. I have a heavy coat and a midweight coat, tall boots and short boots, thick mittens and lighter mittens, a cute beanie and a trapper hat.
heavy coat | green coat: similar, similar, similar
tall boots | short boots | mustard beanie | trapper hat: similar | mittens: similar
I’ll keep this organized by type of women’s winter clothes item but they’re from all of my favorite stores. Let’s kick things off with hoodies and fleece pullovers and work our way to winter jackets, snow boots, and cold weather accessories.
Hoodies and Fleece Pullovers
I am officially obsessed with fluffy fleece pullovers. I had a hard time narrowing them down to this list and it’s still a lot. If I could own them all I would but my favorite few are right on top. I must have them 😉
Mid and Heavy Winter Jackets
I am a coat junkie. I have an obsession I’m pretty sure I inherited from my dad. I own too many and can never pass up a good deal on a gorgeous, warm winter coat. My must-haves for the perfect coat to get you through the bitter mid-west winters are that it’s long enough to cover your booty and has a warm hood that covers your whole head and stays put when the wind kicks up. These are some of my favorites (including my heavy winter coat right on top of the list).
Most are around $75-$150. There’s a few under $50 and a few are splurges but I had to include them because… gorgeous!!
Cold Weather and Snow Boots
I love snow boots. When you call “up north” home you basically live in them for 4-6 months out of the year which has forced companies like Sorel, Pajar Canada, Keen, The North Face, Kamik, L.L. Bean, Sperry, and so many more, to ramp up their cute, warm snow boot designs. If you live in a place that gets snow storms you should have 2 pairs of winter boots (at least 😉 ), a short pair for everyday use and a tall pair for the 3′ snow storms and outdoor activities.
These are some of my favorites include my 3 pairs right up at the top of the list.
These Pajar Canada boots (below) are my everyday SNOW boots.
I wear them the most out of all my winter/snow boots.
These Columbia’s (below) are my everyday WINTER boots.
My feet do get a little cold in them when I’m standing in snow/ice for extended periods.
These Sorel Joan of Arctic tall snow boots (below) are my blizzard/outdoor fun boots.
I wear these when I’m in deep snow or when we’re playing in the snow. I do not think the
tall design is necessary or comfortable enough for everyday running errands but they are very warm!
These (below) are under $50, come in tons of colors and have AMAZING reviews! Check current price >>
Cold Weather Accessories
Are you swooning yet?! I love women’s winter clothes, I wish I could own them all. The necessities are couple really warm women’s pullovers and hoodies, a midweight coat, the heavyweight winter coat, short snow boots, tall snow boots if you live somewhere with large snowfalls or you do a lot of outdoor activities, a warm winter hat that covers your ears, and warm mittens that you can function in. Once you’ve got all that, the rest is just a bonus 😉
