Shopping for breastfeeding friendly clothes is hard. I mean, you’ve just come off almost a year of wearing the same 5 maternity outfits and now you’re limited to things with easy boob access (which you never thought you’d need). Options are limited, making it hard to find something flattering, stylish, and affordable. Lately, a lot of you have been specifically asking where to find great nursing dresses that fit the bill. This is my round-up of the best nursing dresses for easy breastfeeding (or pumping) in style!
77+ Cute Nursing Dresses for Easy Breastfeeding
Shopping for nursing dresses can be hard if you’re not sure what to look for or what your comfort level is. Today, nursing in public is much more common and accepted than it has been in the past though there is still a long way to go. There are a few things to look for when shopping for nursing dresses for easy breastfeeding.
- Wrap Dresses for Breastfeeding – These allow you to pull the neckline to the side for easy breastfeeding. These don’t have full coverage because you’re fully exposing your breast via the neckline. The best part about these dresses that the others don’t offer is size variations. You can easily adjust the size of the dress by wrapping and tying it tighter or looser. This makes them perfect for before, during, and after pregnancy. Plus, they are classic and always in style.
- Surplice Neckline Breastfeeding Dresses – These are similar to a wrap dress neckline but they don’t actually wrap around the waist. Faux wrap dresses can also be grouped into this category because they are not as sizing versatile as an actual, functioning wrap dress.
- Fold/Slit Top Nursing Dresses – A lot of nursing dresses have a second layer on the top with a slit underneath that allows you to easily separate the slit for easy access. This also keeps you covered due to fabric on both sides.
- Double Layer Nursing Dresses – These allow you to lift up the top layer for easy access while still staying covered by the bottom layer.
If you’re not modest, any of these options will work just fine for you. If you prefer to be discreet about breastfeeding and don’t want to use a cover, the double layer and slit options will give you the most coverage in a nursing dress. For those of you planning to use a nursing cover (I LOVE this one) over the dress, all 4 of these nursing dress styles will work for you. The wrap dress is probably the easiest and most versatile of all the options because it’s easy to adjust and maneuver, especially with a cover on.
Where to Find the Best Nursing Dresses
My favorite places to shop for nursing dresses is online at Nordstrom because they have a lot of options and offer free shipping and returns. Another favorite place is, obviously, Amazon because they are super affordable and you often get free shipping and returns with a Prime account and 5% off with a Prime Card.

Wrap Dresses for Breastfeeding
As I mentioned above, wrap dresses are your most convenient options. They offer the easiest access for a breastfeeding dress and they are so size versatile you can wear them before, during, and after breastfeeding. Plus I just love the classic look of a pretty wrap dress. They come in so many patterns, fabrics, and styles. You can find one for every occasion and season. If you’re concerned about the “slit” from the wrap opening, throw a pretty slip under the dress for extra coverage and even to add a pop of color or lace to the hemline.

Surplice Neckline Breastfeeding Dresses
Surplice is probably not a term a lot of people hear often. It’s basically an overlapping v-neck with a bit of ruching below the bust. This allows the v-neckline to be pulled the side easier than a standard v-neck dress would. These breastfeeding dresses offer easy access like the wrap dress without the worry of the slit opening on you. They aren’t as size versatile as the wrap nursing dress but do offer a wider variety of skirt shapes. You can find them in a-line or fitted giving you more style options.

Fold or Slit Nursing Dresses
These are the most common style “breastfeeding dresses.” They’re actually made specifically for breastfeeding and offer the most coverage while doing so. They come in a ton of styles and variations so you’ll get the most options with a fold or slit nursing dress. The only downside is, while you CAN wear these before and after breastfeeding, it might be awkward knowing there is a hole there for your boob. They also don’t adjust in size so if you’re larger in the bust while breastfeeding you’ll have extra room in the top before and after.
Double Layer Nursing Dresses
Double layer nursing dresses are often looser styles that allow you to completely lift the outer layer of the dress. They are less common but offer a casual look and feel. Since they are generally a looser fit you can often wear these before, during, and after pregnancy.
Cute Breastfeeding Dresses Do Exist
So there are actually a lot of cute nursing dresses for easy breastfeeding, you just have to know what to look for and where. There are so many styles and with free shipping and returns at Nordstrom and Amazon, you’re sure to find something that works for you without a lot of hassle. The best part is, you might even find something you can wear after breastfeeding to get the best bang for your buck! Go ahead, splurge a little on a cute nursing dress or two. After all, you are keeping a tiny human alive.
